Court Martial: Truth In The Blinds of Darkness
The movie Court Martial is presented in a play form and is directed against the backdrop of military court proceedings. It is a 2020 Hindi film exploring the themes of suspense and thriller.
The film is inspired by a teleplay written by Swadesh Deepak in the 1980s and brings up an extraordinarily sharp and upright defence lawyer. A lawyer who slowly and steadily brings out the truth to the surface about a brutal murder of a senior-ranked officer by lower-ranked army personnel. It is a fantastic movie directed by Sourabh Srivastava and Chittaranjan Tripathi that unfolds the dirty mindset inside the Army, which still holds tight to the age-old differentiation practice based on caste.
Court Martial Cast
Court Martial cast includes Rajeev Khandelwal as Defense Lawyer Captain Bikash Roy, Saksham Dayma as Captain B.D Kapoor, Swapnil Kiiran Kotriwal as Sawar Ramchander, Bhagwan Tiwari as prosecution lawyer Major Ajay Puri, Ram Ashish Mishra as Subedar Balwan Singh and few other eminent actors in the supporting roles.
Court Martial Plot
The scene starts with the court claiming Sawar Ramchander to have shot his senior officer Captain Verma and injured Captain B.D. Kapoor. The movie is not about Sawar Ramchander's crime but about why he committed it.
Even after Sawar Ramchander's confession proves him guilty, defense lawyer Captain Bikash Roy pulls out the system's ugly threads, finally presenting the still prevalent caste discrimination system even within the Indian Army.
The movie proceeds with Captain Bikash bringing out the truth to the surface very cleverly, which shows that Captain B.D Kapoor used to call Sawar Ramchandren abusive names and even treat him like his servant, dishonoring the respect of his uniform just because he was a lower-ranked officer belonging to the lower class of the society.
Captain Bikash Roy smartly brings forward the actual reason behind Sawar Ramchandren shooting his seniors and proves that although he is not guilty, he should not be the only one receiving the punishment from the honorable court.
The movie ends with Captain B.D Kapoor hurting himself in his rage against another lower rank official, which the Chief Justice claims as 'Poetic Liberty'.
