Covid-19 jabs crossed one crore in the afternoon on Friday as the government raced to deliver a vaccination record on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. This is the fourth time that one crore doses have been administered in a single day.
According to a senior health official, 42,000 vaccines were administered in a minute. The numbers signal a bigger milestone is to be achieved by the end of the day.
The government has said it is aiming to administer 2 crore vaccinations as PM Modi turns 71. The vaccination campaign is key to the BJP’s three-week celebrations to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday.

BJP had prepped health volunteers ‘to ensure that the maximum number of people get their COVID-19 vaccines on the day’.
The government has also added a ticker to show vaccinations happening in near real-time. National Health Authority chief RS Sharma tweeted the tracker as he celebrated the achievement.
