25-year-old Australian woman wins $1mn for getting vaccinated for COVID-19

After receiving the coronavirus vaccine, an Australian woman, Joanne Zhu wins $1 Million. Millions of Australians have answered the government’s call to immunize themselves, and they’ve all been entered into a lottery to win a life-changing prize. Anyone in Australia who rolled up their sleeves had a chance to win a million dollars. Over the weekend, the winner was announced.

Joanne Zhu was selected as the grand prize winner after receiving a hefty check. A group of donors and corporations came together to create the prize to promote vaccination rates among Australians. “I want to fly my family out from China first-class and put them up in a five-star hotel for Chinese New Year if the borders are open. I will buy presents for my family and invest the rest of the money so I can make more money in the future and to help people if they need help,” she says.

She was clueless about winning money. When authorities called her, she said, “Someone rang me the other day. I think it was on Friday, and I was at work, I couldn’t pick up the phone. Then I called them back and she said: “Oh, you won a million dollars! You’re the only one in Australia!”

In addition to the $1 million cash prize, the Million Dollar Vax initiative offered away 100 gift cards with $1,000 in spending money. Throughout the month of October, the cards were distributed. The initiative is credited with helping to vaccinate more than 80% of Australians against the coronavirus. Because of this astonishing breakthrough, some countries have been able to reopen international borders. They have reduced severe coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns.
