Mumbai:  35 deaths were reported on Saturday as heavy rain pounded several states, including Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Uttarakhand, triggering flash floods and landslides.

Eight family members were among the 22 individuals who died in Himachal Pradesh as a result of landslides and flash floods brought on by severe rain since Friday. Six persons who went missing in Mandi are believed to be dead, while ten people were hurt in rain-related accidents around the state.

Following a series of cloudbursts in Uttarakhand, four people were killed and ten were reported missing. As rivers crossed the danger mark and washed away bridges, many were forced to leave many villages, and two people perished in the overflowing Nalkari river in the Ramgarh area.

Odisha, which is already suffering from floods and has 4.5 lakh people stranded in 500 villages, braced for further destruction as a new round of intense rain hammered sections of the state, with officials reporting six fatalities. A significant evacuation effort has been started by the state administration in a number of districts, including Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Balasore. On Saturday, 70 people were saved after a boat carrying them was carried off by high currents in the inundated Mahanadi river.

In various districts of Jharkhand, heavy rain toppled numerous trees and power lines, flooding low-lying areas. In West Singhbhum, a woman was killed when the mud wall of her home collapsed on her, and in the Ramgarh district, two persons perished in the overflowing Nalkari river.
