Since the beginning of time, people have been drawn to stories about magic, bravery, strange creatures, and gods and goddesses with a lot of power. Myths, folktales, and fairytales are a big part of what makes us all human.
These stories are in our blood and bones, and now they’re on the big screen. We’ve always liked fantasy movies for kids, like The Wizard of Oz and pretty much all of Disney’s movies. They’re also some of our favorite movies on the big screen because we never really grow up, do we?
This list has something for every kid who likes unicorns, superheroes, magic potions, or big battles between good and evil.
We’ve tried to include old classics, new favorites, and stories from worldwide. The best part is that we know you’ll love them too. Because come on, your kid has had the remote for years, and you know all their favorite shows by heart. It’s about time you watch something you’ll like, too!
There are a lot of great fantasy movies that your family can watch together. Just to get you started, here are a few:
1. Odiyan (2018)
When electricity got introduced in British-controlled Kerala during the early 20th century, it became increasingly difficult for the notorious shapeshifting ‘Odiyan’ clan of criminals to operate in the shadows.
The final “Odiyan” (played by Mohanlal), whose kind has been abducted and brutally murdered, terrorizes the empire with his covert assaults.
2. A Flying Jatt (2016)
Hindi action-adventure film A Flying Jatt, starring Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez, was released in 2016. Aman, a shy young guy who unexpectedly acquires abilities, is at the centre of the plot.
Industrialist Malhotra, who is to blame for environmental degradation, has set sights on the property owned by Aman’s family. He enlists the help of Raka, a mutant, to destroy a sacred tree on the property, but Aman intervenes.
Aman has a superpower; can he prevent Malhotra and Raka from further harming the environment? On August 25, 2016, the film premiered in India. Both reviewers and moviegoers had varied reactions, but the film did well financially.
- Sati Behula (2010)
Sati Behula is a Bengali movie featuring Rajesh Sharma, Hema Malini, Ashok Bhattacharya, Bhagyashree, and Siddharth Dhawan, and it combines fantasy and spiritual, and religious themes.

The Maharaja of Kanchangarh encounters a beautiful lady while out hunting. However, he marries her and brings her home without knowing her real character.
The moment he finds out the truth about her, the prince attempts to warn the King. Refusing to consider his advice, he banishes him from the palace.
- AranyaDeb (2017)
For as long as we can remember, we’ve held a particular place in our hearts for comic book heroes who saved the day when we were kids. And some who, no matter how much they mature, can’t give up their childhood dream heroes.
Debasish Sen Sharma’s AranyaDeb is a tribute to the Bengali hero he has admired since childhood. However, the hero of this film doesn’t hide his identity or use a cape. We could even imagine running into him around the block as our neighbour.
Aranya (Jisshu) is a happy young man with big aspirations. He sees himself as a superhero and longs for the ability to fly. He dislikes formal education and working in an office but takes great pleasure rescuing others in need.
However, Deb (Mir) is the opposite; he has been a hard worker from a young age and has a successful business career and a wonderful family life. He may be odd, but he can still appreciate his closest buddy’s future.
- Ek Je Ache Apsara (2017)

As the piece’s villain, Rajesh Vivek Upadhayay and his family have been at war with Ramya for generations over who gets to live in the Monument. The villains eventually succeed in killing Ramya and taking over the monument. Her last promise is to return to exact revenge on her enemies once she dies.
The continuation of the narrative takes place on the silver screen. Originally titled Shivanagam in Tamil, the film was renamed Nagabharanam in Telugu and Nagarahavu in Kannada. Makuta VFX oversees the visual effects.
Final words
The list of fantasy movies is varied, to be sure. Some are funny, some terrifying, some adventurous, and some inspirational. For those who enjoy the creatures and magic that often accompany a good fantasy story, the above movies are for you.
Many things go for fantasy movies, not just the oft-mentioned merchandising tie-ins. Sometimes it’s nice to have a movie that’s all about the story, one that you can watch without worrying about unrealistic scenarios or engaging action sequences. This may sound like a bit of an odd quality for a movie to have, but fantasy does it well. We must look forward to seeing where the genre goes in the future.
