Money Heist is one of the most beloved non-English shows on Netflix with a fanbase all over the world. As season 5 is all set to premiere on September 3, 2021, here are some interesting facts about the show that we bet you didn’t know.
Impromptu finalization of character names
It is believed that Álex Pina, the producer, director, and creator of the show during some early script readings, arrived wearing a t-shirt with “Tokyo” written on it, which gave the idea of naming the characters after the cities. Thus, making Tokyo one of the first-named characters.
No pre-written script
One of the initial steps of making any show or film is writing and finalizing the scripts. What makes Money Heist so different, is the fact that scripting and shooting of the show went hand in hand. Barely leaving the actors time to prepare in advance for the scenes.
The name story
Before releasing the show as ‘La Casa De Papel’ in Spain, the creators had chosen the name ‘Los Desahuciados’ which when translated comes as ‘Outcasts’. Later on, Netflix renamed it ‘Money Heist’ for the understanding of the global audience.
Professor’s name
It may be unknown to most people but like all the characters who have their names based on cities, so does the professor. His unofficial name is, ‘Vatican City’ which depicts mystery and is filled with knowledge making it perfect for him.
Financial crash inspiration
It is assumed that the 2008 financial crisis that affected the vast majority of people around the globe may also be some kind of inspiration behind the show, reflecting on how these big banks organizations control people’s lives.
No Nairobi
Nairobi is one of the most beloved characters on the show. The death of her character left people teary-eyed but what’s surprising to know is that the first draft of the show had no mention of her character.
Military Man
Roberto Gracia, known for his character as Oslo had served over 2 decades in Spain’s military before he got into acting.
The fate of characters
Initially, it was decided that each character on the show would be shown suffering from some illness that would act as a driving force behind the heist but later on, it was only finalized for Berlin’s character.
End of Berlin’s character
The creator of the show, Álex Pina said that Berlin’s character became controversial and misfit for the show. Thus, forcing him to cut the character off.
