Golden Globes 2022 awards

The Golden Globes 2022 awards are going forward with their celebration, however it will be very different from previous years.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will host the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California, honoring the best in film and television from the previous year.

The event will take place at its usual location. But little else about it will be the same as in prior years. According to Variety, HFPA president Helen Hoehne earlier stated that the occasion would not be “the celebrity-driven event like it has been in the past.”

“We realize this year is different, so we’re going to probably also try something different for January 9,” she added.

The organization provided additional details on Sunday’s event on Tuesday.

Who will attend the Golden Globes 2022 awards?

Following the significant increase of COVID-19 cases as the extremely contagious omicron version rockets through the United States, there will be no audience or nominees at Sunday’s awards event.

According to the organization, only “select members and grantees” would be in the room when the prizes declare.

Attendees must get both the vaccines and also a booster vaccine. Also, present proof of a negative PCR test within 48 hours of the event. Masks and social distance will be a must as well.

There will be no red carpet, and there will be no media.

Where to watch

The Golden Globes always airs on NBC every year. The event will not air this year. The network said in May that it will not broadcast due to controversy prompted by a Los Angeles Times exposé. It claims that the HFPA has no Black members. (The HFPA is a group of 87 worldwide journalists who select the Golden Globe candidates and winners each year.)

After facing boycotts from Hollywood, the HFPA has now made modifications and revisions to become more inclusive. Thereby, including Tom Cruise returning all three of his Golden Globe medals as a result of the scandal.

In a previous press release, the organization said, “Over the last eight months, the HFPA has completely overhauled their bylaws, implementing sweeping changes from top to bottom that address ethics and code of conduct, diversity, equity and inclusion, governance, membership and more. Recently, the HFPA admitted their largest and most diverse class to date of 21 new members, all of whom are first-time Golden Globe voters.”

Following the release of the nominations in December, Hollywood remained mainly silent, with only a few celebs reacting to the news, as in previous years. According to a source in the industry, “From a network perspective, nobody knows what to do about the Globes and a lot of people are still undecided because there’s still a bit of time to make a decision. But it feels as if they’re not even happening.”

The HFPA did not state whether the awards presentation would air live overseas.
