The D-day is here. Just one sleep away is IPL mega auctions. This year, the title sponsorship is with Tata. Therefore, the tournament will be TATA IPL 2022 from this season onwards. Hugh Edmeades will handle the auction. He has been hosting the IPL auction since taking over from Richard Madley in 2018. Here’s everything you need to know about IPL 2022 mega auctions.

When and where to watch the IPL 2022 mega auctions? 

In India, the auction will be broadcasted on Star Sports and also streamed live on the Disney+ Hotstar website and app. The auctions will likewise be live at 11 am IST and 6.30 am GMT on the 12th and 13th of February, 2022.

What is the retention list?

The eight existing teams were, provided with the preference of forming the foundation of four players, including two international players and one uncapped player. Retention of Indian-capped players was restricted to three. However, the new entrants, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow SuperGiants were deemed to elect three players from the pool of unretained players. This was after the retentions were announced by the eight original teams. In addition, the new teams could only have two capped Indians, one foreigner, and one uncapped Indian on their roster.

How many players are there in the auction pool?

There will be a total of 590 players available. It encompasses 370 Indians and also 220 overseas players. The original list of 1214 players was then cut down to the final shortlisted 590 players.

What are the minimum and maximum players each team needs?

Each team should have a squad of 18 to 25 players before the end of the auction. They must also use up a sum of INR 67.5 crore (about USD 9 million) from their inclusive purse of INR 90 crore (USD 12 million approx.). However, each team can only have eight international players.

What is the auction process? Also, how will it take place?

However, except for a group of ten marquee players who will open the auction, the players have been categorized into specific sets based on their skillsets. Before shifting on to uncapped players, the marquee set will be followed by a full round of capped players based on specialization. They are hitters, all-rounders, wicketkeeper-batters, fast bowlers, and spinners. On Saturday, just the top 161 players will go under the hammer. On the second day, an accelerated bidding process will also begin. The RTMs would certainly not be in use this season.
