The BBC archives, on which marked India’s 76th Independence Day, tweeted a video of Independent India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s first televised interview. The interview was aired in 1953 and is Mr. Nehru’s first TV interview.
In the interview when Mr. Nehru is asked “Why there is so little resentment toward the British in view of the past history,” Mr. Nehru responded saying “We don’t, I suppose hate for long or intensively, but chiefly I think because the background Mr. Gandhi gave all these past decades.”

In a follow-up question, Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru was asked, he himself was prisoned for 16 years and he did not seem to be having any resentment.”
“I think it’s a good thing for a person to go to prison for a short while,” Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru replied.
Today marks 75 years since the partition of India.
