Mumbai: The Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has a new poll symbol – two swords and a shield, allotted by the Election Commission of India. This comes a day after a day after the poll body asked the camp to submit fresh symbols.
The Election Commission said that it has allotted the ‘Two Swords & Shield symbol’ to the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena. Shinde group was allotted the name ‘Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’ on Monday.
The Election Commission has allotted the symbol of Mashal (Torch) to the Uddhav Thackeray group of Shiv Sena for the upcoming Andheri bypoll. The poll body also allowed the Uddhav Thackeray group to use the name ‘Shiv Sena- Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’, one of the three suggestions provided by the group to the EC.

In its letter to the Eknath Shinde faction, EC said the “Dhal Talwar” suggested by them was not on the list of free symbols.
“It resembles an erstwhile reserved symbol ‘Do Talwarein aur Ek Dhal (Two Swords & Shield)’ of ‘People’s Democratic Movement’ which was derecognized as a state party in 2004… On receipt of your request dated ll.l0.2022, the Commission has decided to declare ‘Do Talwarein aur Ek Dhal (Two Swords & Shield)’ to be a free symbol and allots it… till the final order is passed in the Dispute,” read the notification from the Election Commission.
With this now, both the factions of Shiv Sena have got their names and symbols as a temporary measure till the time the Commission takes a call on the “real Sena” question.
Conch shell, shield and swords, and peepal tree were among the options the Shinde camp had proposed to the poll body.
