On April 4, the trial of a self-published romance author accused of fatally murdering her chef husband began.

Greed and also a $1.4 million insurance policy drove Nancy Crampton Brophy, according to Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Shawn Overstreet. Her lawyers have then refuted the charge.

Nancy bought the same make and model of gun that was in use in her husband’s murder, according to prosecutors. They believe she swapped out the barrel to make the weapon harder to trace.

Nancy’s gun purchase, according to the defense, was for research purposes in her profession as a novelist. The jurors, however, did not appear to believe that claim.

Nancy Crampton Brophy had authored another novel, “The Wrong Husband,” in addition to the essay “How to Murder Your Husband.”

The sentencing for the guilty novelist and self-tattletale is still pending.
