Mumbai: Ahead of the Supreme court’s hearing on Wednesday in connection to the petitions filed by both the factions demanding disqualification of MLAs of the rival group, Maharastra CM Eknath Shinde, has approached the Election Commission Of India(ECI) as the final bid to stake claim over the Shiv Sena.
In a letter to the EC, the Shinde Sena states that a majority of Shiv Sena leaders have come together and formed a new executive body after dissolving the one by former CM Uddhav Thackeray.

A group of Shiv Sena MPs attended a virtual meeting of the “national executive’ chaired by CM Eknath Shinde. The national executive, called by the Shinde faction ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on Wednesday, also appointed Mr. Shinde as the “chief leader” of the party.
Eknath Shinde, who revolted within the Sena was sworn-in as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister on June 30 after the former CM Uddhav Thackeray had to resign due to a collapse in his party. Mr. Shinde enjoys the support of 40 out of 55 Shiv Sena MLAs in the state assembly.
Maharashtra assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar(BJP) has recognized the Shinde group as the legislature party.
A bench headed by CJI NV Ramanna will hear the petitions today.
