Lucknow : UP BJP Chief Swatantra Dev Singh was addressing the party workers at the inaugural session of the state executive of the party’s minority front in Lucknow. While addressing on Sunday said that being a political leader does not means you can mow down anyone by a Fortuner car.
His such remarks came regarding Lakhimpur incidence and arrest of Ashish Mishra. Ashish Mishra rammed farmers with his car while farmers were leading a peaceful protest. This incident took lives of eight people including four farmers. Investigation is going on and on Saturday Ashish Mishra was arrested. He will be produced before court soon.
“Elections should be won on basis of one’s conduct. Politics is about serving your society, your nation. There is no caste and religion involved. Being a political leader doesn’t mean that you loot, it doesn’t mean that you mow down anyone by Fortuner. We are in this party to serve the poor. Politics is not a part-time job,” Singh said.
He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying, “Two persons from a poor background became the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi opened bank accounts for the poor when no one bothered. PM Modi and Yogi constructed seven lakh homes in the state. Did anyone ask about votes and religion? Vaccines are being sent to other countries under PM Modi’s leadership. The lives of people are transforming through gas, electricity connections and toilets which are being provided to them.”
He also alleged that interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi looted the nation for a decade.
Elections for 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh are due early next year.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers’ unions, warned the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government that the ‘deadline’ to sack and arrest Union minister Ajay Misra is today, i.e., Monday.
“SKM warns Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh that time is running out on the deadline of October 11 given by SKM. Ajay Misra Teni’s arrest and dismissal are awaited in addition to arrests of all culprits in Lakhimpur Kheri farmers’ massacre. Justice is clearly getting compromised because of Ajay Misra Teni being a minister in the Union government,” SKM said.
Further, the farmers’ statement said, “Haryana and Chandigarh Police are moving fast to lodge cases against farmers. However, where farmers are seeking justice, police departments are moving slowly. These double standards not acceptable.”
