Britney Spears' conservatorship terminates after 13 years

Britney Spears’ conservatorship terminates after 13 years. She has called the termination of a formal agreement. It had governed many elements of her life for the previous 13 years. She describes it as “the best day ever.” “I think I’m gonna cry,” she told her 35 million Instagram followers.

A judge in Los Angeles terminated the conservatorship. The establishment by the 39-year-old singer’s father in 2008 with immediate effect on Friday was ruled out. Fans had gathered outside the Los Angeles courthouse to show their support for Spears, who had certainly described the guardianship as abusive.

Britney’s father Jamie earlier said it was “necessary”, but agreed it was time for her “to re-take control of her life”. “Her life was in shambles and she was in physical, emotional, mental, and financial distress,” lawyers representing Jamie Spears said in earlier court filings. As a result, the conservatorship held authority over her financial and professional decisions. As well as key personal issues including her visits with her teenage sons and whether she might remarry.

On Friday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny granted the singer’s motion to terminate the proceedings. It was not opposed by any of the parties involved. As part of the decision, Judge Penny stated an accountant serving as a temporary conservator will give some authority to address continuing financial difficulties.

Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart says, he is proud that she has “shined a light on conservatorship from California to New York”. There is new legislation. It is “to try to ensure and conservatorships like this… do not happen again”. Paris Hilton wrote on Twitter the “moment is so long overdue”, adding: “Your best days are yet to come!”

In a June court appearance, the actress urged the judge to end the “abusive” arrangement. She claimed she was in “trauma.” She informed the court, she was under the influence of drugs. She was compelled to act against her will. Barring from marrying or having further children. A conservatorship is for people who cannot make their own decisions. It comes in place because of concerns about their mental health.
