Lok Sabha

The EVMs will be unlocked following the postal ballot count, which began at 8 a.m.

New Delhi: In three Lok Sabha and seven assembly seats spread across five states including Delhi where by-elections were held on June 23, votes are now being tallied.

Punjab (Lok Sabha)

In Punjab, the AAP nominated Gurmail Singh, the party’s Sangrur district coordinator, while the major opposition Congress nominated Dalvir Singh Goldy, a former Dhuri MLA, and the BJP nominated Kewal Dhillon, a former Barnala MLA who joined the party on June 4.

The Shiromani Akali Dal ran Kamaldeep Kaur, the sister of Balwant Singh Rajoana, a defendant in the murder of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. Simranjit Singh Mann, the leader of the Akali in Amritsar, is also running for office.

Uttar Pradesh (Lok Sabha)

Rampur and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, as well as Sangrur in Punjab, both conducted Lok Sabha by-elections.

The BJP put Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi, a recent party member, on the ballot in Rampur. The Samajwadi Party is running Asim Raja, who was hand-selected by Azam Khan. The Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati did not run a candidate from Rampur.

Azamgarh witnessed a triangular race between Shah Alam, popularly known as Guddu Jamali, of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, and Dinesh Lal Yadav, a Bhojpuri actor and singer.

Tripura (Vidhan Sabha)

Manik Saha, the chief minister of Tripura, is one of the leading contenders in the assembly by-election.

Elections for the seats of Agartala, Jubarajnagar, Surma, and Town Bardowali were held in Tripura. Mr. Saha, Rajya Sabha member who ran from Town Bardowali, needs to prevail in order to keep his position as chief minister.

Jharkhand (Vidhan Sabha)

After MLA Bandhu Tirkey was stripped of his office after being found guilty of corruption, a by-election in Jharkhand was necessary.

While the BJP nominated former Legislator Gangotri Kujur for the seat, the Congress selected his daughter Shilpi Neha Tirkey as the common candidate of the ruling JMM-led alliance. Dev Kumar Dhan, an independent, ran for office in Jharkhand with support from Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

Delhi (Vidhan Sabha)

In Rahinder Nagar, AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak and Rajesh Bhatia, a former councillor from the province in Delhi, are expected to compete closely. Prem Lata is the Congress’ choice.

After the passing of Industries Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy in February, an election was held in Andhra Pradesh to replace the vacancy. The contender for the ruling YSR Congress is his younger brother Vikram Reddy. G Bharat Kumar Yadav is the BJP candidate.

Atmakuru in Andhra Pradesh, Mandar in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, and Rajinder Nagar in Delhi were the other seats where assembly by-elections were conducted.
