Coldplay to stop making music as a band after 2025

Coldplay will stop making music as a band in 2025. Frontman Chris Martin reveals the shocking news on live radio. Here’s all you need to know.

Coldplay to stop making music in 2025

Martin on Wednesday made a shocking announcement on Radio 2. The frontman of the iconic band revealed in a clip ahead of his Christmas show along with Jo Whiley. “Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that, I think we will only tour. And maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalog, as it were, finishes then,” stated Martin.

On her breakfast show, Whiley told Zoe Ball, fellow DJ, that while Martin is always “disarmingly honest” in his interviews, she is “never quite sure if he’s joking or being deadly serious”. However, this time, Martin’s comments are consistent with the information shared around the release of Coldplay’s ninth studio album. Their album, Music of the spheres ranked top earlier this year.

Earlier in October 2021, Martin in conversation told NME that the band intended to make a total of 12 albums and then stop. However, this recent news reveals that they have decided on a date. He also told Absolute Radio that he envisioned the band moving ahead as a touring act. “In the way that the [Rolling] Stones do, it will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late 70s. That will be wonderful if anybody wants to come,” described Martin.

Coldplay fans and enthusiasts are reacting to the news on social media forums such as Reddit. However, the reactions are mixed. “I feel that they made their mark on music in a positive way,” said one fan. “Haven’t enjoyed any of their stuff past [the fourth album] Viva La Vida but what a career they’ve had,” noted another. Several fans also urged that Coldplay did not have to stop.

According to a user, “one of the barest cash grabs I’ve ever seen”. “Just remember that they have raised absolute thousands for multiple charities, had multiple worldwide sold-out shows (and due to having another in 2022), and are some of the most kind-hearted and selfless people on this earth. Don’t be awful,” reminded a user on Twitter. Additionally, in a recent interview with the BBC, Martin announced that their next tour will be partly electricity powered. The dancefloor will be generating electricity when fans jump. Additionally, there will be pedal power at the venue.
