This was the second time in less than a year that Mr Munawar Faruqui’s show had been cancelled in the Karnataka capital.
Stand-up comedian show has been cancelled in Bengaluru, for the second time, at the eleventh hour yesterday. According to the deputy commissioner of police (south) P Krishnakanth, the organisers had not sought permission.
The cancellation comes after a Hindutva group petitioned city police commissioner C H Pratap Reddy alleging that the artist had hurt Hindu sentiments in his shows by making insulting comments about Lord Ram and goddess Sita.

Munawar Faruqui, in an Instagram post, said his Hyderbad show would be held on Saturday on schedule.
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar had called for the boycott of comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show, scheduled to be held on August 20 in Hyderabad, claiming that the performer had demeaned Goddess Seetamma and Lord Rama.

“As if the comedy circus of TRS govt run by a bunch of clowns in Telangana isn’t enough, now they’re bringing Munawar Faruqui, who demeans Goddess Seetamma and Lord Rama in the name of comedy, to Hyderabad, he said.
“What’s the message being given to Hindus by allowing this program?”, the BJP leader had questioned on Friday.
