Gautam has been summoned today by Delhi Police, he has to appear for questioning today, this comes amid a religious conversion event row

New Delhi: Former Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam is in the headlines these days for attending a religious conversion event in Delhi. He has been summoned today by Delhi Police. He has to appear for questioning today.

On October 8, as per NDTV reports, Gautam was heard taking an oath at the conversion event in Delhi. At the event, thousands were converted and chose Buddhism over Hinduism.

“I will have no faith in Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, nor will I worship them as God. I will have no faith in Rama or Krishna, nor will I worship them. I will have no faith in Gauri, Ganapati, and other Hindu gods, nor will I worship them,” was the wording of his oath.

The vow is part of 22 pledges taken by Dr. BR Ambedkar that people take while they are being converted. Every year since 1956, such events have been organized, and these vows have been repeated, Gautam said.

Today, he was seen signing the summons letter handed to him by the Delhi Police. Yesterday, he denied receiving any notice. “No notice has been received. The police came to question me this evening, I gave the information asked,” he told reporters on October 10.

The BJP has termed his presence at such an event as “religiously divisive.” The BJP also accused AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal of being anti-Hindu.

On Sunday, Rajendra Pal Gautam resigned from the Cabinet. He also said that his presence at the event had nothing to do with politics. “Attended it in my personal capacity,” he further added.

Speaking of Kejriwal being aware of his attending a mass conversion event, he said that Kejriwal wasn’t even aware of it. “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “did not even know about the event and that he wasn’t forced out by him,” he said.

As the Minister for Social Welfare, SC and ST, Registrar of Co-operative Societies, and Gurudwara Elections, Gautam stated that he is stepping down from his position because he does not want to bring his leader or the AAP into disrepute.
