The government took stock of the Covid-19 situation in the country amid rise in coronavirus cases in Maharashtra and Kerala. Union Home Secretary suggested night curfew should be considered in areas with higher number of infections.

The health ministry said more efforts would be required to curb the infection spread.

The Covid cases have mounted again in the last three days after a five-month-low. Kerala has been reporting the maximum number of cases accounting for nearly 60% of the new infections in the past week and more than half of the total active cases. It is followed by Maharashtra constituting 16% of new cases.

Government assured the states of additional vaccine supplies. India has so far administered more than 61 crore vaccine doses, giving at least one dose to more than half of its eligible adults.
