Delhi transport minister releases Residential EV Charging Handbook
New Delhi Feb 28 PTI Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday released the Residential EV Charging Handbook which will help Delhiites to get step-by-step guidelines to install charging points for electric vehicles on their premises according to an official statementThe initiative will increase affordability and access of EV chargers to common citizens and make the installation process hassle-freeThe statement said with the release of the handbook Delhi becomes the first state in India to make residential societies and resident welfare associations RWAs an integral part of its EV missionGahlot along with Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi DDC Vice-Chairperson Jasmine Shah also inaugurated an EV-charging station under the single-window facility at RWA Vasant KunjThe minister said the guidebook will ensure that the citizens are well informed about the charging infrastructure installation and the benefits being provided by the governmentThrough our comprehensive EV policy we are not only providing demand incentives such as purchase subsidies and interest subventions but we have also ensured incentives for EV infrastructure development Gahlot was quoted as saying in the statementThe guidebook addresses the common concerns of the RWAs like space planning not limiting to the present EVs choosing the right mix of EV chargers power load management etcUnder the Switch Delhi campaign the government has developed a single-window facility for the citizens to apply for the installation of EV-charging points and avail the subsidy from the comfort of their homes without any hassle the statement saidWith the subsidy one can buy a 33-KW LEVAC charger for less than Rs 2500 compared to the existing market price of the charger of over Rs 8500 it addedAs part of the initiative the three DISCOMs — BRPL BYPL and TPDDL — have already empanelled more than 10 EV charger vendors which will be providing trusted and certified chargers to the citizens in accordance with the standards stipulated by the governmentOne can submit a request for EV charging point installation in less than five minutes along with an EV charging connection if required through the respective DISCOMs Switch Delhi web pageThe government has mandated an electricity rate of Rs 45 per unit for all such EV connections which is among the lowest in the country the statement saidUnder the initiative more than 100 requests have already been received by the three DISCOMs and installation of 19 EV charging points have already been completed comprising both private and semi-public usages it addedThe Delhi government had launched a comprehensive EV policy on August 7 2020 with a vision to promote faster adoption of electric vehicles in the city and to make Delhi the EV capital of IndiaShah said the release of the guidebook is an important step to facilitate this activity and Delhi has become the first state in the country to make residential societies and RWAs an integral part of its EV mission PTI AKM RC
