Disney has abandoned a female-led "Pirates of the Caribbean" picture, says Margot Robbie

Hollywood actress Margot Robbie, an Oscar-nominee, has bad news for everyone who was hoping for a female-led “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. The movie, which was announced in June 2020, has been shelved and will not proceed at Disney, according to the diva’s most recent announcement.

The “Birds of Prey” actress revealed information about the movie, which would have been scripted by her screenwriter Christina Hodson, in a new Vanity Fair cover story.

Speaking to the publication, she said, ““We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool. But I guess they don’t want to do it.”

A second relaunch of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, written by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin, and the Margot Robbie-starring movie was initially mentioned in reports from 2020. All five “Pirates” films have been produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

“Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without.” Bruckheimer told the publication when asked about the future of the Pirates franchise.
