Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi has made an entry into the top-10 after his ten-wicket haul in the second test against WestIndies, while skipper Babar Azam rises to the seventh position in the latest ICC men’s Test player rankings.
Shaheen Afridi is currently placed at the eighth position with 783 rating points. The 21-year-old pacer took a maiden ten-wicket haul in the match to help Pakistan level the series. Afridi registered figures of 6/51 in the first innings and followed it up with 4/43 in the second innings. He also took eight wickets in the first test. Afridi was named man of the series for his sensational performance. He took 18 wickets in the series which is the joint second-most in a two-match Test series for Pakistan, and also the joint third-highest by any pacer in a two-match series.
Pat Cummins remained at the top spot with 908 points. India’s off-spinner R Ashwin is second on the list with 848 points. Followed by Tim Southee, Jos Hazleowwd, and Neil Wagner in the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Fawad Alam jumps up 34 places, Babar Azam rises to seventh in the ICC Test Rankings
Among the batters, Pakistan captain Babar Azam jumped to the seventh spot in the standings, while India’s Rishabh Pant dropped to eighth. Babar Azam scored 75 and 33 in the second Test, which helps him advance one slot in the rankings. Babar aggregated 193 runs in four innings at an average of 48.25 against the West Indies.
Fawad Alam, who scored 124 in the first innings, has achieved a career-best position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. Fawad has soared up 34 places to take the 21st spot. Jason Holder has advanced six places to the 37th position. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson holds the top spot with 901 rating points.
