After being detained from the National Commission of Women’s Delhi office this afternoon over a controversial video, ‘s Gujarat unit chief Gopal Italia was released Delhi Police after three hours. Italia has been in the eye of storm over a video in which he was allegedly heard using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, National Commission for Women (NCW) had issued a summons against Italia, who appeared before the women body this morning. Minutes after the AAP leader claimed that NCW chief Rekha Sharma threatened to put him in jail, he was taken away in a police car.
Italia made allegations against Sharma minutes after the NCW chief accused the Arvind Kejriwal’s party workers of creating a disturbance outside her office.
The developments come in the backdrop of intense war of words between the AAP and BJP ahead of the important Gujarat Assembly Polls. The AAP has already started campaigning for the assembly polls in the Western state, with leader like Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia paying frequent visits to the state.
Earlier, Rekha Sharma had alleged hat over 100 people came outside her office in support of Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat unit chief Gopal Italia and threatened her for summoning Italia over a purported video.
While talking to ANI, Sharma said, “He denied getting a summon but his reply is ready. He also denied his presence in the video but in his reply, he accepts tweeting. He had claimed it wasn’t him in the video.” “His statement and written statement don’t match. He hasn’t given a proper reply. I’ve told the police too that action should be taken against him because he was creating an atmosphere to impact the law and order situation. His supporters attempted to enter (the NCW office) forcefully,” she added.
Manish Sisodia, the Deputy CM of Delhi, also slammed the saffron party over Italia’s arrest and he was detained because he belonged to a party that knows how to build schools. “They don’t know how to educate people and improve schools,” the senior AAP leader said.
In a purported video said to be from 2018, Italia had allegedly heard using abusive terms, including “neech aadmi (lowly person)”, to describe PM Modi. The Commission had summoned him to its office today in the case, stating that his language was “gender-based” and “misogynistic”.
