Illnesses connected with the 9/11 attack caused more deaths than the attack: Report

According to a new analysis, illnesses connected to the 9/11 attack have resulted in more deaths than the catastrophic twin tower attack itself.

The September 11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) has received approximately 3,900 claims linked to illnesses connected with the 9/11 attack.

Nearly half of those who have filed claims have been diagnosed with cancer.

The fund’s ”special master” Rupa Bhattacharyya says that means ”the number of people believed to have died of a 9/11-related illness subsequent to 9/11 has now exceeded the number of people who died on 9/11.”

“More people are now believed to have died of 9/11-related illnesses than were lost on September 11, 2001,” she said.

On September 11, 2011, hijacked jetliners smashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and also a field in Pennsylvania. They killed almost 3,000 people.

More than 40,000 people have received checks totaling $8.95 billion from the fund established. It was to compensate those who died on September 11, 2001.

Following a US-led war in Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack.

Bin Laden died in a surprise assault on his stronghold in Pakistan by US forces in Afghanistan in 2011.
