It’s almost a week since the 16th season of the Indian Premier League has begun and some unknown faces have already started to get a lot of recognition. IPL has always been a platform for newcomers to not just play with international star players but also showcase their talents and make their way into the national team. The likes who Ravindra Jadeja, Jarprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya who have now cemented their place in the playing xi got their breakthrough after they shined in the IPL.
It would be quite early for a performance review as most teams have only played one game. However, in today’s day and age of cutthroat competition, most cricketers have to make an impact in whatever circumstances they are left to because maybe that would be their last chance of the season.
1. Rajvardhan Hangargekar
Bagged by the Yellow army for Rs 1.5 crore Rajvardhan Hangekar made his debut in the very first game of the tournament against defending champions Gujarat Titans. Hangikar got a 3 wickets haul giving away 36 runs with an economy of 9. The 20-year-old quick bowler dismissed Wridhiman Saha, Vijay Shankar, and Sai Sudarshan. However, he proved to be quite costly for the Ms. Dhoni-led franchise when just bowled 2 overs and leaked 24 runs.
2. Nehal Wadhera
Not an ideal start for Mumbai Indian debutant Nehal Wadhera who managed to get a 21 off 13 when the team was falling apart with the joint efforts of Royal Challengers Banglore’s bowling unit and eventually scummed after a bashing by RCB’s opening pair. However, the 22-year-old grabbed eyeballs with his 101-meter six in the huge Chinnaswami stadium. The young sensation hit one four and two sixes in his first IPL innings.
3. Kyle Mayers
IPL also signifies powerpack performances and who better than the West Indies to hit out-of-the-park sixes and multiply the entertainment of the game?
Kyle Mayers The West Indian all-rounder lit up the IPL on his debut for Lucknow Super Giants. Mayers who got to open the batting alongside captain KL Rahul, in absence of Quinton de Kock, scored 73 runs off 38 balls while smashing two boundaries and seven sixes. His score against Delhi Capitals made him the fourth-highest-scoring debutant in IPL history and helped LSG register a comfortable 50-run win. He was successful in replicating the performance in the second game against the CSK where he smashed a 53 of 22 with 8 boundaries and two maximum shots. Which then resulted in a respectable total of 205 for the LSG.
These are just the top 3 performances from the 7 games played so far and With 63 more games at hand, many more debuts are expected one of which is said to be the most-awaited of bowler-All-rounder and son of Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun Tendulkar. Junior Tendulkar is warming the bench for the last two years. Tendulkar was bought for a mere 3.0 Lakh by the MI.
