New Delhi : India-Born Parag Agarwal has taken over as the chief executive officer of Twitter on Monday as Jack Dorsey has resigned from the post after 16 years. Jack Dorsey will hand over the command of the company to his successor Parag. If sources are to be believed, the company’s board has been preparing for Dorsey’s departure since last year.

This decision has been taken after Twitter has made many innovations in the last one year to take on its rivals. Twitter has taken several new measures to stay in the market with rivals like Facebook and TikTok and achieve the goal of doubling its annual revenue by 2023.

A letter has been issued by Twitter. In the letter, Dorsey said that he has fulfilled the responsibility in many positions in the company. He played the role of CEO from the first co-founder. Then held the post of chairman. This was followed by the executive chairman, then interim CEO. Then worked as CEO for about 16 years. It is time to say goodbye to the company. So my successor i.e. Parag Agarwal will now be our new CEO.

Dorsey said the Twitter board of directors ran a rigorous process to look for a successor and “unanimously” appointed Agrawal who will also be appointed to the Twitter’s board. In a letter to Twitter employees that he shared on the platform, Dorsey said Agrawal has “been behind every critical decision that helped turn this company around”.

Working in Twitter since 2011, Parag is a graduate of IIT Bombay and holds a doctorate degree in computer science from Stanford University. At the time when Parag started working in Twitter, there were only one thousand employees in the company. He took over as the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of the company in 2017. Prior to working at Twitter, Parag worked at AT&T Labs, Microsoft and Yahoo. At present, most of the global technology companies are headed by people of Indian origin. Satya Nadella is the CEO of Microsoft and Sundar Pichai is running Google. Now Parag Aggarwal will take Twitter forward.
