Jamal Edwards, a music entrepreneur, and YouTube sensation died at the age of 31. He founded SBTV, an online urban music platform that helped musicians such as Dave, Ed Sheeran, and Jessie J rise to popularity. Jamal Edwards grew up on a council estate in Acton, West London, the son of Loose Women panelist Brenda Edwards.
Edwards had a pioneering role in British rap and grime music. Also, he was an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a youth organization operated by the Prince of Wales that assists young people in establishing their businesses. He was rumored to have performed as a DJ at a gig in north London on Saturday night after attending the Brit Awards earlier this month. Other than the fact that he passed away on Sunday morning, unfortunately, no other information has been disclosed about his death.
Huge loss to the music industry
Brenda Edwards, said in a statement: “It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness. Myself, his sister Tanisha, and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated. He was the center of our world.”
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Twitter that British music and entertainment “has lost one of its brightest stars”. Rapper Dave simply tweeted: “Thank you for everything words can’t explain.” While actor and director Adam Deacon posted that he was “honestly heartbroken. Jamal was one of the nicest, most down to earth and humble men I’ve met in this industry,” he said. “He always gave me time even when no one else would.”
