Jeff Bezos’ mega yacht towed away amid Dutch bridge outrage

Jeff Bezos’ under-construction mega yacht was towed away from a Dutch shipbuilding yard just weeks after Rotterdam residents threatened to pelt the luxury yacht with eggs if the city went ahead with plans to dismantle the historical bridge to make way for the $500 million luxury yacht.

Here’s what happened

Bezos’ Mega Yacht got the tow treatment very early on the Tuesday morning from a Dutch shipbuilding yard. The Yacht is 417-ft long and costs around $500 million.

It was towed to the Greenport shipyard in Rotterdam in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, according to the German magazine Der Spiegel.

The reason for the secret mission is that there’s been a lot of outrage there over a historic bridge potentially being taken down just so Jeff’s mammoth superyacht can sail out to sea.

De Hef isn’t tall enough to accommodate the Yacht passing through

The bridge in question, which has landmark status, is known as De Hef. Notably, it’s right near the site where the yacht is getting constructed by a company called Oceanco.

De Hef isn’t tall enough to accommodate the Y721 passing through. There was speculation that Oceanco was going to ask the city to dismantle the bridge partially. However, that resulted in a major outrage from the locals.

The backlash was so intense, that Oceanco reportedly backed off the bridge. Now, it seems they’re going to continue the build at a site far from De Hef.
