NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal was acquitted by a special court on Thursday in the Maharashtra Sadan case which was probed by the state Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The case relates to a 2005-2006 when the NCP leader as the PWD minister allegedly gave contract for the construction of Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi to be built on a piece of land belonging to Regional Transport Office.

According to the ACB, the contractors had ‘earned 80 per cent profit’, while as per the government, such contractors were entitled to ‘only 20 per cent profit’.

Bhujbal had put a defense saying that the decision to hand over the project to the firm was taken by the Cabinet Committee in a meeting headed by the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Bhujbal’s two relatives and five others were also cleared of all charges by the court.
