New York man wins $10M lottery for the second time in 3 years

A man in New York is a human form of luck. He has won the $10M lottery, not once but twice in 3 years. On Tuesday, the New York Lottery announced that Juan Hernandez of Uniondale, Nassau County, has won the $10 million Deluxe scratch-off game.

New York Lottery said this is Hernandez’s second win after he won the same amount in 2019, winning the top prize in the $350 million Cash Spectacular scratch-off ticket. Hernandez said in the release he is “still trying to spend the $10,000,000,” he won three years ago. 

However, this is not the first instance where someone won the lottery twice. Though the odds are rare, a retired utility worker from Maryland won a $2 million lottery jackpot for the second time in October 2021. On the other hand, women from North Carolina and Missouri, each won the lottery twice on the same day, although for different sums of money.

He will donate the money from his second win 

“I’m still trying to spend the $10 million I won in [2019],” Hernandez said in a statement. Hernandez said he decided to take the lump sum of his recent winnings, resulting in him winning a total of $6.5 million “after required withholdings.” 

He announced on his Facebook page that he will donate the proceeds from his second win to those in need. A man named Wesley Hunter thanked Hernandez for his generosity and outlined how it will aid him after the pandemic in a post uploaded to his Facebook on February 28.

“Since your monetary donation I have been able to get a new truck and get back to work after months of struggling,” the post read. “People like you are an inspiration to all. Thank you for this generous act of giving.”
