Tribune News ServiceAmritsar August 22Newly-appointed Police Commissioner Vikramjit Duggal today sought peoples coordination in maintaining law and order in the city He replaced Sukhchain Singh Gill who has now taken over as Commissioner of Police in Jalandhar He held a meeting with senior police officials while formally joining his duty at his officePolice jawans also presented him a guard of honour before he joined his dutiesA citizen should consider himself a cop in the civil dress while the policemen should consider themselves a civilian in police uniform This would help in having better cooperation and coordination between police and public and deterrent against criminal elements he pointed outOn repeated incidents of firing and gang wars he said though the government had managed to nail majority of gangsters remaining would also be behind the bars soon He said those who took law into their hands would also be dealt with an iron handI am fortunate to serve the holy city twice First as the SSP Amritsar rural and now as Police Commissioner Amritsar city he said He said being a major tourist destinations it has its own challenges including traffic snarls He said he also tried to address this problem
