It has been more than a month since the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. Four Protesting farmers were mowed down by a speeding Mahindra Thar of Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra. Four others died in the violence that followed. After sitting on the case, delaying the arrest of Ashish Mishra against whom FIR was filed under the charges of Murder, the police was forced to act post nationwide outrage in the matter. The Supreme Court too took a suo motu cognizance of the matter. It slammed UP Police for the mishandling of the case and asked the govt to form an SIT to investigate the matter.
After evading the summons, Ashish Mishra finally appeared for investigation in front of the state police and subsequently was arrested. As we speak Mishra remains in jail.
However, even today, the wheels in the case haven’t moved much. There hasn’t been significant progress in the case. The supreme court is clearly not happy with it and it made it a point to Convey this to UP Police in the harshest words possible.
