Mumbai : Former Assistant Police Commissioner Samsher Khan Pathan has levelled allegation on ex-cop Param Bir Singh of destroying mobile phone seized from 26/11 terror attacks convict Mohammed Ajmal Kasab. He alleged that “Param Bir Singh confiscated terrorist Kasab’s phone, ensuring that the phone never appeared during the investigation or trial.”
Speaking with India Today, Samsher said that he had confirmed his colleagues that the Kasab’s phone destroyed by Param Bir Singh was the very phone on which Kasab was receiving instructions from the Pakistani handlers. “It could also have the numbers of people involved from this side of the border as well. So this is an issue of national importance and hence this matter needs to be investigated and the accused immediately arrested,” he said.
Pathan had submitted a written complaint to the Mumbai Police Commissioner in July and asked him to investigate the entire matter and take necessary action against Singh. Though Pathan’s complaint was submitted four months ago, it was widely circulated on social media on Thursday, the day when Singh appeared before the Mumbai crime branch to record statement in an extortion case registered at Goregaon police station against him.
“I didn’t want to publicise the matter because it concerns the security of the nation. So I requested the police commissioner to look into the matter. But now that the letter has been leaked, I am sure the police have something against Singh and they should immediately take action in this matter. I have done this as a social responsibility post retirement,” he said.
EXCERPT FROM THE LETTER:
I also recollect that soon thereafter during detailed discussions with my counterpart Sr. P. I. Shri N. R. Mali, there was a matter of concern for all us, which Sr. P. I. Shri N. R. Mali shared with me that the Mobile Phone of the Terrorist Ajmal Kasab which the D.I.G. (ATS) Shri Parambir Singh took from the Police Hawaldar attached to D. B. Marg Police Station, was not further handed over by him to the concerned Investigating Officer P. I. Shri Mahale attached to the Mumbai Crime Branch, which was handling the investigationWe even discussed between ourselves that this matter assumes great significance as it is not just amounting to destruction of one of the major piece of evidence, but also clearly helping the cause of the said enemies of our nation.
Meanwhile, the former Mumbai CP was questioned by the crime branch for six hours in connection to the alleged extortion case. The investigating officials said that the former top cop cooperated with the investigation and answered all questions asked regarding the case. The investigating agency served a notice to Singh stating he would have to appear before the investigators whenever needed.
