A senior Patna Police officer on Thursday fuelled a massive outrage as he said banned outfit PFI trains youth in martial arts just like RSS shakhas. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is a part of the ruling coalition with the JD(U) in the state, has taken strong objection to the remark. A show-cause notice has been issued to the senior cop, asking the senior cop to explain his comment within 48 hours.
Manavjit Singh Dhillon, Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), has been facing flak due to his his comments at a media briefing this afternoon.
“The organization worked at Masjids and Madrassas to mobilize youths and worked to radicalize them. The modus operandi was similar to that of RSS shakhas. They train the youth under the guise of physical education and spread their agenda. We got documents of camps teaching martial arts and training members to use sticks and swords under the guise of physical training. The document was being used to radicalize, brain wash and mobilize people,” SSP Dhillon had said.
The SSP, speaking at the press meeting, said: “No involvement of any mainstream religious institutions has been found. The accused, who used to be SIMI workers, stayed away from the public glare.”
“Organisations like the PFI have several underground cells. The accused held meetings in their name and organized training camps for its members. Their general vision document said that if people of the Muslim community are tortured and suppressed, they will work to protect them,” he further added.
The BJP, which considers the RSS its ideological mentor, got furious over the SSP’s comments, saying that he spoke like a spokesperson of the PFI. They also demanded Dhillon’s removal from the post of SSP.
Labelling the SSP as ‘mentally insolvent’ for comparing PFI with RSS, BJP MLA Harish Bhushan Thakur said his statement is proof of his mental bankruptcy. Demanding immediate apology from Dhillon, Thakur said the officer should be sacked if he doesn’t apologise.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the main opposition party in Bihar, backed the SSP. “Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police has rightly said about the modus operandi of the Sangh that these people spread their propaganda and hatred in the name of physical training! And in some areas, they carry out riots, mob lynchings and other anti-social harmony activities,” the RJD said.
