Eknath Shinde’s revolt last month with a section of Shiv Sena MLAs resulted in the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.

New Delhi: The Maharashtra government led by Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis will reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel soon.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed the State Assembly on Monday.

A decision to reduce VAT on fuel will be taken in the state cabinet.

Mr. Shinde informed the House while replying to a debate after he won the vote of confidence.

In his address at the assembly after winning the floor test, Eknath Shinde on Monday said he had been suppressed for a long time and the rebellion led by him was a fallout of the unfair treatment meted out to him, an apparent reference to his old association with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.

“The happenings of today didn’t happen in just one day,” Mr. Shinde added.

Eknath Shinde’s revolt last month with a section of Shiv Sena MLAs resulted in the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government. Shinde took oath as the chief minister on June 30 with Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy.

“When I came for election, there are people in this House who witnessed how I was treated. I have been suppressed for a long time. Sunil Prabhu (Shiv Sena MLA ) is also a witness,” he said without elaborating.

Meanwhile, NCP leader and former deputy CM  Ajit Pawar was on Monday named the Leader of the opposition in the state assembly.

The newly appointed Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced that Pawar will take over as Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.

NCP has emerged as the single largest opposition party in the 288-member House, Narvekar added.
