Republicans believe that with Trump announcing his candidacy for the prez 2024 elections, the party will have lesser chances of coming into power. Read to know more about their concerns.

Republicans unhappy with Trump’s early prez 2024 announcement

As former US president Donald Trump is gearing up to publicly announce his intentions of taking part in the 2024 presidential elections, several members are expressing their concerns. They believe his announcement could also cost them the Georgia seat. The seat could be on the line as run-off elections are scheduled for next month. The move comes with a sense of a “red wave” in the midterm elections which was predicted.

Additionally, most candidates with Trump’s endorsement faced severe losses. Senate candidates in New Hampshire, Don Bolduc, and Pennsylvania’s, Dr. Mehmet Oz, lost to their opponents. Moreover, Blake Masters trailed his opponent, Mark Kelly by six percentage points. As per CNBC analysis, the former president endorsed a total of six Republican candidates. Among them, five lost.

Trump’s call for prez run divides Republicans

Some members of the Republican party are openly urging others to move on from Trump. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu won Tuesday’s re-election and called Trump’s prospect of running so early a ‘silly decision’. “He stands to potentially muck up the opportunity for [Herschel] Walker to win in Georgia in his runoff. I think what the former president doesn’t understand is if he announces. He’s not going to keep anyone out of the race,” stated Sununu.

“But no one else is going to announce until summer or fall for a whole variety of fundraising reasons and all of this. So it’s going to be a very awkward thing with only him in the race. No one’s going to care. It’s just going to be weird,” he added. “It would be a bad mistake for the Republicans to have Donald Trump as their nominee in 2024,” stated Mo Brooks. Brooks is a congressman from Alabama and a Trump supporter. “Donald Trump has proven himself to be dishonest, disloyal, incompetent, crude, and a lot of other things that alienate so many independents and Republicans. Even a candidate who campaigns from his basement can beat him,” he added.
