Rupee surges 15 paise to 7359 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai Sep 21 PTI The Indian rupee appreciated 15 paise to 7359 against the US dollar in opening trade on Tuesday tracking the weakness of the American currency in the overseas market At the interbank foreign exchange the rupee opened at 7374 against the dollar then edged higher to 7359 up 15 paise over its previous close On Monday the rupee had settled at 7374 against the US dollar Meanwhile the dollar index which gauges the greenbacks strength against a basket of six currencies fell 009 per cent to 9319 Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in the capital market on Monday as they purchased shares worth Rs 9254 crore as per exchange data On the domestic equity market front BSE Sensex was trading 7395 points or 013 per cent lower at 5841698 while the broader NSE Nifty declined 130 points or 001 per cent to 1739560 Meanwhile global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 088 per cent to USD 7457 per barrel According to Anil Kumar Bhansali Head of Treasury Finrex Treasury Advisors the Federal Open Market Committee FOMC starting Tuesday should give some direction to the range-bound market by tomorrow morning Exporters to keep selling the uptick while importers may get a chance to buy below 7350 level Bhansali said PTI DRR ANS ANS
