New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) today harshly criticized what it viewed as inaction on the part of authorities in the case involving suspended BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma’s remark about the Prophet Muhammad. The Delhi Police’s handling of the matter was questioned by the court as well.
Justice Surya Kant stated, “…When you file FIRs (First Information Reports) against others, they are promptly detained, but when it’s against you, nobody has dared to touch you.”
The FIR against Ms. Sharma was initially filed by the Delhi Police, according to Ms. Sharma’s attorney, Maninder Singh.
“What has Delhi police done? Don’t make us open our mouth. What was the topic of the TV debate? Just to further an agenda? Why did they select a subject of controversy? What if she serves as a party’s spokesperson? She believes she has support from power and that she may say whatever she wants without regard for the law of the land?” SC inquired.
“There was a query by the anchor to which she responded,” her attorney retorted. Justice Kant observed, “There ought to have been a case then against the host.”
