Superman to Captain America: A full list of new LGBTQ superheroes

For many years, the superhero universe has been devoid of queer characters. Fortunately, that is changing. Marvel and DC, which have a slew of comic book characters, are finally rethinking classic characters as gay and introducing brand new characters for us to love. From Superman to Batman’s sidekick, DC and Marvel have introduced us to a slew of LGBTQ superheroes this year. Read below to see the list.

Here is a full list of LGBTQ superheros

Superman

Superman

Superman Clark Kent has not come out, but his son, Jon Kent, is bisexual. Jonathan falls for high school reporter Jay Nakamura in ‘Superman: Son of Kal-El.’ In issue five of the comic book, which will be released on November 9, the young man kisses reporter Nakamura.

Loki

Loki

Loki’s sexuality has always been a source of contention, but Marvel recently revealed that the God of Mischief is both pansexual and gender-fluid. Tom Hiddleston’s role is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first big LGBT character (MCU).

Robin

Robin

Robin, Batman’s sidekick, has revealed that he is bisexual. Tim Drake, reveals his sexual identity in the latest episode of ‘Batman: Urban Legends’ when he accepts an invitation to go on a date with a male.

Batwoman

Batwoman

Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, originally appeared in the DC Extended Universe as a love interest for Batman in the 1950s. However, she was resurrected in 2006 as a lesbian of Jewish origin by writer Greg Rucka. Later, in the CW’s ‘Batwoman’ series, Australian actress and model Ruby Rose became the first openly lesbian starring superhero on US television.

Phastos

Phastos

In addition to Chloe Zhao’s ‘Eternals,’ the MCU is about to acquire its first openly gay character in Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos. He plans to marry and have a child, making him the first LGBTQ+ family.

The Flash

The Flash

DC Comics introduced a nonbinary version of the Flash during a major comic-book crossover event earlier this year, adding a fresh name to the increasing list of nonbinary superheroes. Jess Chambers, alias Kid Quick, is a nonbinary, gender-fluid character who refers to himself with they/them pronouns.
