First phase of UP assembly polls ends peacefully, says state CEO

Lucknow Jan 21 PTI Following the implementation of the election code around 672 lakh licensed weapons have been deposited with police in Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said on Friday He said in a statement that licences of 862 arms were cancelled Police have seized 4767 arms 5003 bullets 214 units of explosive substances and 109 bombs he said adding 90 centres of manufacturing of illegal arms have been raided following the imposition of the poll code So far 233 FIRs have been registered for the violation of the poll code of which 44 were registered on Friday The excise and police departments have seized over 509 lakh litres of liquor worth over Rs 1043 crore The income tax department has recovered more than Rs 927 crore till now of which Rs 5097 lakh in cash was recovered on Friday the CEO said PTI NAV RDK RDK

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 20 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla on Wednesday said that 44,80,204 publicity materials have been removed from public and private places, liquor worth Rs 9.19 crore and 'ganja' worth Rs 14.31 crore has been seized in the state as part of measures to ensure compliance with the model code of conduct (MCC) for the upcoming assembly polls.
