Researchers develop promising new cancer therapy

Immune checkpoint inhibitors such as Keytruda and Opdivo work by unleashing the immune system's T cells to attack tumour cells. Their introduction a decade ago marked a major advance in cancer therapy, but only 10 per cent to 30 per cent of treated patients experience long-term improvement. New findings could now bolster the effectiveness of immune-checkpoint therapy.

Researchers find out new treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases

People with inflammatory bowel diseases develop inflammation of the intestine that can cause thickening of the gut wall and life-threatening blockage of the intestinal tube. Twenty to 50 per cent of people with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are affected over their lifetime by this poorly understood condition, called "fibrosis."

Abnormal heart metabolism linked to sudden cardiac death in future: Study

Washington [US], July 11 (ANI): According to a small, but rigorous study led by Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers, adults with abnormal heart metabolism are up to three times more likely to experience life-threatening arrhythmias (an irregular heart rhythm), and MRI techniques could be used to detect the condition and predict future sudden cardiac death (SCD).

Scoring low in simple memory test linked to Alzheimer’s biomarkers, suggests study

Minnesota [US], February 24 (ANI): One may have 'an elephant's memory', but how far can that help in preventing dementia? A recent study found that among people with no memory or thinking problems, having a poor score on a simple memory test may be linked to biomarkers in the brain associated with Alzheimer's disease as well as very early signs of memory impairment that precede dementia by several years.
