Chandigarh Mar 27 PTI Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated several projects including the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre under which over 2000 CCTV cameras have been installed here to keep a check on traffic violationsShah also laid foundation stones of a hostel block of commerce college a project for constructing 240 houses for police personnel and a bus depot-cum-workshopThe ICCC centre is also integrated with major citizen services including water electricity sewage solid waste management transport e-governance parking and public-bike sharing for an effective monitoring of services and data analysisThe Union minister was accompanied by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh administrator Banwarilal Purohit on this occasionAddressing the gathering Shah said he was visiting the beautiful city after a long time and felt very goodIn the history of the modern world Chandigarh is the most developed city in the category of planned cities said ShahHe recalled that when he was young children in Gujarat were then given an example of Chandigarh as the planned and good cityHe said when a city grows its requirements also change and as times change there is a change in needs and requirementsAnd those which do not change with the times they cannot keep themselves relevant he saidHe also lauded the Chandigarh administration for making a system to adapt this changeAnd that is not only for peoples facilities it includes security also environment protection he saidShah said when Narendra Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat he got many urban development related projects implementedHe said Gujarat is among those states where urban population is perhaps the maximumThe Union minister said after Modi became prime minister he brought the Smart City concept in the entire countryPM Modi also brought AMRUT scheme solar mission and green city he saidThe other projects which the Union Minister inaugurated included a new office building of Chandigarh Housing Board two government schools and an urban park PTI CHS VSD TDS TDS

New Delhi Dec 21 PTI The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs MoHUA on Tuesday organised a technical conference-cum-exhibition here to disseminate knowledge on the planning design implementation operation and maintenance of 24x7 water supply systems The event was organised by the ministrys Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation CPHEEO an official statement said The inaugural session was chaired by MoHUA secretary Durga Shanker Mishra While addressing the session he emphasised the need for integrated water resource management with water conservation through recycling of used water control of NRW non-revenue water and rejuvenation of water bodies He also pitched for taking up 24x7 water supply projects in at least one wardDMA District Metered Area in 500 AMRUT cities under AMRUT 20 He said 24x7 water supply projects will ensure prevention of water contamination control of NRW equitable water supply and bring efficiency in terms of financial sustainability by attracting PPP funding and institutional financing The cities that are implementing 24x7 water supply projects showcased their best practices and technological solutions such as water meters valves GIS mapping and hydraulic modelling at the exhibition About 600 participants participated in the conference Also the guidelines for planning design and implementation of 24x7 water supply systems were released The conference was attended by technical heads chief engineers city engineers and senior engineers dealing with water supply in all the 500 AMRUT cities experts manufacturing firms and consultants PTI MAH SMN SMN
New Delhi Sep 30 PTI Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the second phases of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation on Friday his office said In line with the vision of the prime minister SBM-U 20 and AMRUT 20 have been designed to realise the aspiration to make all cities garbage free and water secure the Prime Ministers Office PMO said in a statement on Thursday Modi will launch the two initiatives at 11 AM at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre here it said These flagship missions signify a step forward in the march towards effectively addressing the challenges of rapidly urbanising India and will also help contribute towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 the statement said Union Minister for Housing Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri Minister of State for Housing Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore as well as ministers of urban development of states and union territories will also be present on the occasion SBM-U 20 envisions to make all cities garbage free and ensure grey and black water management in all cities other than those covered under AMRUT make all urban local bodies open defecation free plus and those with a population of less than one lakh as open defecation free plus thereby achieving the vision of safe sanitation in urban areas The mission will focus on source segregation of solid waste utilising the principles of 3Rs reduce reuse recycle scientific processing of all types of municipal solid waste and remediation of legacy dumpsites for effective solid waste management the statement said The outlay of SBM-U 20 is around Rs 141 lakh crore it said AMRUT 20 aims at providing 100 per cent coverage of water supply to all households in around 4700 urban local bodies by providing about 268 crore tap connections and 100 per cent coverage of sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities by providing around 264 crore sewer or septage connections which will benefit more than 105 crore people in urban areas the PMO said AMRUT 20 will adopt the principles of circular economy and promote conservation and rejuvenation of surface and groundwater bodies it said The mission will promote data-led governance in water management and technology sub-mission to leverage the latest global technologies and skills it said Pey Jal Survekshan will be conducted to promote progressive competition among cities The outlay of AMRUT 20 is around Rs 287 lakh crore the statement said SBM-U and AMRUT have contributed significantly to improve urban landscape during the last seven years PMO said The two flagship missions have augmented the capacity to deliver basic services of water supply and sanitation to the citizens the statement said Swachhta has become a jan andolan today all urban local bodies have been declared open defecation free and 70 per cent solid waste is being scientifically processed now the statement said AMRUT has been ensuring water security by adding 11 crore household water tap connections and 85 lakh sewer connections thus benefiting more than 4 crore people PTI ASK ZMN ZMN
