Itanagar Feb 19 PTI Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig Retd B D Mishra on Saturday recalled the contributions of KAA Raja the first Lieutenant Governor of the former Union territory in various fields especially education The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to confer the highest state award Arunachal Ratna posthumously on Raja for his immense contributions to the socio-economic and administrative development of the then Union territory The award will be presented on the 36th statehood day on Sunday Rajas eldest daughter Vijayalaxmi youngest Maragathavalli and several other relatives called on Mishra at Raj Bhavan on Saturday The governor during the meeting said that Raja had distinctively and distinguishably contributed to the growth and development of the Union territory of Arunachal Pradesh in the nascent stage Due to his visionary guidance the state has grown on the strong foundation laid by Raja especially in the field of education Mishra said The governor thanked Rajas family members for accepting the invitation to receive the Arunachal Ratna award an official communiqu said He said that the foundation of the Raj Bhavan was laid by Raja and showed them the plaque Mishra who had served in the Madras Regiment said that Rajas brother Major General KAS Raja was one of the distinguished generals of the regiment and the governor had personally interacted with him Rajas eldest daughter-in-law Dr Lalitha Raja eldest grandson Jai Venkatesh and granddaughter-in-law Krishna Priya were also present on the occasion Vijayalaxmi and Maragathavalli fondly and emotionally recalled their early days in the then Raj Nivas in Naharlagun as also their occasional visits to the present Raj Bhavan then under construction PTI UPL ACD ACD

Itanagar Dec 18 PTI Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig Retd Dr B D Mishra has exhorted soldiers of the 18th Battalion of Madras Regiment where he was posted to maintain discipline train hard and build bonhomie with civilians Addressing a Sainik Sammelan organised to commemorate the 1971 India-Pakistan War at the battalions unit location in New Delhi on Friday he said that their determination will lead to success in all military endeavours The battalion was awarded theatre honour Sindh for making a deep thrust in the western front across the Thar Desert into Pakistans Sindh province in the 1971 war an official communiqu said Mishra recalled his days as a young officer in the battalion in which he was commissioned on December 17 1961 The Madras Regiment the oldest in the Indian Army has played an active role in many campaigns during the colonial period and after independence Thambis as the soldiers of the regiment are popularly known as have always been known for their valour sacrifice and devotion to duty he said He said that the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 was a golden chapter in the military history of India Mishra said that the Indian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to make the country self-sufficient in the defence sector Earlier he laid a wreath at the battalions war memorial and attended a special Bara Khana with the troops and Commanding Officer Colonel OLV Naresh briefed the governor on the war fitness and other achievements of the unit the communiqu added PTI UPL ACD ACD

Itanagar Nov 20 PTI Exhorting Army personnel to prepare for any and every eventuality along the borders Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig Retd B D Mishra on Saturday said India would not have faced reverses against China in 1962 if the country back then had a strong leadership a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan here said Addressing a sainik sanmelan at the operational base of the 14th battalion of Rajput Regiment in Changlang district the governor pointed out that the country should never lower its guard If India had a strong leadership in 1962 we would not have had any reverses against China Now the field equations have changed India is one of the most powerful armed forces in the world However we should not lower our guards Every soldier must prepare himself for any eventuality on our borders the governor said Mishra also said that the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is always concerned about the welfare of Army troopers There is a sea change in the attitude of the government towards the security forces Now the apex political leadership is highly concerned about the wellbeing of security personnel he stated He called upon the personnel to maintain discipline train themselves hard and share an affable relationship with civilians If the men in uniform are determined they will be successful in all their endeavours he said The governor who had participated in 1965 India-Pakistan war with the regiment as company commander lauded the proficiency of the battalion and its soldiers As a token of appreciation Mishra also made a contribution for the regiments Bara Khana on this occasion the statement added PTI UPL RMS RMS

Itanagar Nov 18 PTI Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig Retd B D Mishra on Thursday called upon armed forces personnel to uphold nationalism while maintaining bonhomie with civilians an official statement issued by Raj Bhavan here said Interacting with the members of a Mountain Cycling-cum-Trekking Expedition team from 106 Infantry Brigade at Raj Bhavan here the governor said the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been concerned about the welfare of armed forces personnel who perform the duty of protecting the motherland As members of the democratic nations armed forces soldiers have to uphold nationalism and bonhomie with the civilian population Mishra stated The expedition which was flagged off from Nyakmadung in West Kameng has covered 714 km spanning seven districts of the state with an aim to foster the spirit of adventurism and strengthen the relationship between security forces and the local population The governor commended the officers and personnel for the mission as part of which they have interacted with school children and organised medical camps in remote areas the statement said Mishra exhorted the expedition team to continue its endeavour of creating awareness about the prowess of the Indian Armed forces and motivate the youth to join defence forces He advised them to prepare themselves for eventualities such as the ones in Doklam and Galwan The trekking-cum-cycling expedition led by Lt Col Rupam Sharma will cover a distance of about 1200 km before concluding at Tezpur on November 27 PTI UPL RMS RMS
