BCCIs halal meat recommendation for Indian cricketers raises eyebrows

Kanpur Nov 23 PTI A row involving the BCCI erupted on Tuesday after it emerged that only halal meat has been recommended for the Indian cricketers during their stay in Kanpur for the series-opening Test against New Zealand The catering and menu document in possession of PTI also mentions categorically that no pork or beef should be part of any food in any form or variety BJP spokesperson and advocate Gaurav Goel demanded immediate withdrawal of the recommendation The players can eat whatever they want but who has given BCCI the right to introduce halal meat This is illegal and we will not allow it Goel said in a video posted from his twitter handle This decision is not right It should be withdrawn immediately None of the BCCI officials contacted by the PTI was ready to speak about the document which is believed to be prepared by the support staff and medical team keeping the dietary requirements in mind Usually Hindus and Sikhs prefer jhatka meat while Muslims largely prefer halaal In the Halal form of slaughter animals are killed with a cut to the jugular vein and are left till the blood drains out completely In the jhatka method the animal is killed instantaneously A former India cricketer said exclusion of beef and pork items is not surprising though it was never documented before During my time in the team I have never seen any beef or pork items being served on match days in the dressing room At least never in India So I dont think apart from putting pen to paper anything new has been done the cricketer told PTI on conditions of anonymity Before anyone tries to read between the lines beef with its excessive fat content just like goat meat isnt advisable for cricketers We were always advised to have lean protein which is generally grilled chicken and fish he said In the menu there are two kinds of meat items listed -- chicken and lamb The non-vegetarian items listed include roasted chicken roasted lamb lamb chops in black pepper sauce murg yakhni chicken thai curry marinated grilled chicken Goan fish curry tangri kebabs and stir fried vegetables with chicken in garlic sauce The series-opener is slated to begin in Kanpur from Thursday while the second Test will be played in Mumbai from December 3 PTI KHS AT AT

BCCIs sexual harassment policy brings India players to its purview

New Delhi Sep 20 PTI The BCCI on Monday ratified a comprehensive Prevention of Sexual Harassment POSH policy which also brings the Indian cricketers into its ambitUntil now the BCCI did not have a specific policy to deal the matters of sexual harassment The policy is also applicable to office-bearers members of Apex Council and IPL Governing Council besides the cricketers from senior to U-16 levelIn a nine-page document in possession of PTI the BCCI states that a four member Internal Committee will be formed to investigate sexual harassment complaints It did not name the members during its Apex Council meeting on Monday The presiding officer of the IC shall be a woman employed at a senior level at the Workplace Presiding Officer reads the policy 2 members of the IC will be selected from among the employees preferably who are committed to the cause of women or have experience in social work or have legal knowledge 1 member of the IC will be selected from a Non-Governmental Organization or association committed to the cause of women or a person familiar with issues relating to sexual harassment External Member At least one half of the members of the IC will be women The complainant must file the complaint within three months from the date of incident and the IC will give seven working days to the accused to respond to the allegations The respondent gets 10 days to respond The ICC gets 90 days from the date of complaint to complete its inquiry and forward its recommendations to the BCCI which will act on it within 60 days The complainant or respondent can go to court if they are not satisfied with BCCIs verdict That must be done within 90 days of the receipt of the report of the IC The penalties include censure counselling community services warning fine loss of pay loss of seniority termination of employment among others BCCI to pay USD 15 million to Emirates Cricket Board for hosting T20 World Cup BCCI is paying ECB a fixed fee of USD 15 million from our host fee of USD 135 Million and operational costs of USD 55 million which will be covered by ICC Total fee payable is USD 7Millon read an official note Majority of the matches will be played in the UAE Oman Cricket which is hosting six matches gets a fee of USD 400000 PTI BS KHS KHS
