Jammu Jan 29 PTI To mark the culmination of the Republic Day celebrations the customary Beating Retreat ceremony was held at the Maulana Azad Stadium here on Saturday evening Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was the chief guest on the occasion an official spokesman said During the ceremony marching bands of the armed forces were displayed and the inspiring tunes of brass bands and pipe drum bands of the Army the BSF and the J-K Police were performed on the slow and quick strathspey he said Later the Lt Governor felicitated the contingents of pipe drum and brass bands for their mesmerising playing of tunes and outstanding display at the grand event the spokesman said Sinha also awarded several officers from defence forces J-K Police and civil administration besides cadets from NCC boys and girls marching contingents of schools boys and girls ex-servicemen Bharat Scouts and Guides boys and girls and cultural performers he said The Beating Retreat ceremony concluded with the ever-popular Saare Jahan Se Achha with simultaneous display of spectacular fireworks followed by the national anthem the spokesman said PTI TAS AQS AQS

New Delhi Jan 29 PTI Bright and beautiful formations showing Mahatma Gandhi mother earth the tricolour and many more illuminated the firmament this wintry Saturday evening Thanks to a multitude of drones Soon after the annual Beating the Retreat ceremony concluded with Sare Jahan Se Accha a visual treat unfolded in the sky above Vijay Chowk in the national capital with around 1000 drones accompanied by a poetic Hindi commentary about the country its values traditions and achievements From Mahatma Gandhi walking with a stick to mother earth to Indian map to the tricolour the drones presented various formations And the Hindi commentary made the show all the more appealing As myriad colours splashed across the sky the larger message of unity came through the Hindi commentary when the drones made the formation of mother earth Mentioning about Indias values and traditions the narrator highlighted the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam the world is one family The show by the drones fabricated through indigenous technology was the first of its kind at the ceremony The show was organised by startup Botlab Dynamics and supported by the Indian Institute of Technology IIT Delhi and Department of Science Technology People who had gathered for the ceremony fixed their eyes on the sky as well as on the walls of North and South Blocks where a projection mapping or laser show depicted 75 years of the countrys independence It was amazing the efforts of the startup in putting up the drone show is commendable said Pooja Gupta who had come for the ceremony According to Mahindra Singh who attended the ceremony for the third time said everything during the ceremony was really good and excellent After the dignitaries left many people were seen clicking selfies and photographs with some holding the programme card of the event PTI RAM ANU ANU

New Delhi Jan 29 PTI As a cold zephyr blew across the historic Vijay Chowk multiple colours dotted the sky with around 1000 drones taking flight a projection mapping show with myriad hues depicted the countrys 75 years of independence and foot-tapping tunes filled the air marking another colourful Beating the Retreat ceremony on Saturday From the drones show to projection mapping show this years ceremony also presented quite a few firsts For the first time in more than 70 years popular and favourite hymn of Mahatma Gandhi Abide With Me did not echo at the Vijay Chowk where dignitaries and people wearing masks gathered amid pandemic clouds The hymn was replaced by the popular patriotic song Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon which was written by Kavi Pradeep to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by Indian soldiers during the 1962 Indo-China war This years ceremony was conceptualised designed produced and choreographed under the Make in India initiative Written by Scottish Anglican poet and hymnologist Henry Francis Lyte back in 1847 Abide With Me had been part of the Beating the Retreat ceremony since 1950 The hymn was dropped by the government on the grounds that playing more Indian tunes would be appropriate in view of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav a move that has been criticised by Opposition parties All said the sky dazzled with drones fabricated through indigenous technology as the show lasted for around 10 minutes along with synchronised background music A projection mapping show to commemorate 75 years of independence on the walls of North Block and South Block added colours to the ambience Foot-tapping music by the bands of Indian Army Navy Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces CAPF filled the air They also stood in various formations The entry band played the Veer Sainik tune followed by Pipes Drums Band CAPF Band Air Force Band Naval Band Army Military Band and Massed Bands Commander Vijay Charles DCruz was the principal conductor of the ceremony To celebrate the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav new tunes were added to the ceremony These included Kerala Hind ki Sena and Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ram Nath Kovind Prime Minister Narendra Modi Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Army chief Manoj Mukund Naravane Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and Air Force chief Air Marshal V R Chaudhari and various other dignitaries were present at the ceremony The drone show was organised by the startup Botlab Dynamics and supported by Indian Institute of Technology IIT Delhi and the Department of Science Technology A centuries-old military tradition Beating the Retreat dates back to the days when troops disengaged from a battle at sunset As soon as the buglers sounded the retreat the troops ceased fighting sheathed their arms and withdrew from the battlefield The custom of standing still during the sounding of retreat has been retained to this day Colours and standards are cased and flags lowered at retreats And drumbeats recall the days when troops billeted in towns and cities were recalled to their quarters at an appointed time in the evening Those present to witness the ceremony carried eco-friendly invitation cards The cards had been prepared with the seeds of medicinal plants of Ashwagandha Aloe Vera and Amla embedded in it People are being encouraged to plant those in their gardensflower pots and reap the age-old medicinal benefits according to the defence ministry With a note of serenity Sare Jahan se Acha song concluded the event and the gathering slowly dispersed The Beating the Retreat ceremony marked the end of Republic Day celebrations that started this year a day early with Parakram Divas on January 23 to mark birth anniversary of Subash Chandra Bose PTI RAM MR MR

New Delhi Jan 27 PTI Delhi Police has made elaborate traffic arrangements for the Beating Retreat ceremony which will be held at Vijay Chowk here officials said on Thursday The Beating Retreat ceremony which marks the formal end of the Republic Day celebrations will be held on Saturday January 29 According to an advisory traffic restrictions will be put in place on Saturday from 2 pm to 930 pm Vijay Chowk will remain closed for traffic it said adding traffic will not be allowed on Rafi Marg between Sunehri Masjid roundabout and Krishi Bhawan roundabout No traffic will be allowed on Raisina Road from Krishi Bhawan roundabout towards Vijay Chowk beyond Dara Shikoh Road roundabout Krishna Menon Marg roundabout and Sunehri Masjid roundabouts towards Vijay Chowk Traffic will be restricted on Rajpath between Vijay Chowk and C hexagon the advisory said The commuters are advised to take alternate routes like Ring Road Ridge Road Aurobindo Marg Madarsa T Point Safdarjung Road Kamal Ataturk Marg Rani Jhansi Road Minto Road etc it stated The buses will be diverted from their normal routes from 2 pm to 930 pm the advisory said The entry and exit gates of Udyog Bhawan and Central Secretariat metro stations will remain closed from 2 pm to 630 pm on Saturday it added Parking will be available for those coming to see illumination at Vijay Chowk behind the water channels between Rafi Marg and C Hexagon after 7 pm the advisory said The motorists are advised to observe traffic rules and follow directions of traffic personnel and remain updated through traffic police Facebook page Twitter handle and traffic police helpline it added PTI NIT AQS AQS
