Bengaluru Jan 19 PTI A dominant performance in the second half helped Haryana Steelers beat Puneri Paltan 37-30 in an intensely-contested affair at the Pro Kabaddi League here on WednesdayHaryanas defenders Jaideep and Mohit picked up 7 tackle points each while captain Vikash Kandola had 8 raid pointsThe first half saw the lead see-sawing between the two sides Haryana Steelers defence was certainly in the groove as Mohit and Jaideep thwarted the Pune raidersAslam Inamdar and Pankaj Mohite struggled to derive errors from the Steelers while at the other end Pune matched it with resolute defendingPune had conceded 50 points in their previous match but Sanket Sawant and Sombir ensured the covered remained safeA well-time Super Tackle by the latter with less than a minute to go for half time ensured the teams changed sides with scores 14-14But Haryana came out of the blocks much sharper after the restart Vikash Kandolas raiding ensured they got an ALL OUT in the 3rd minuteThe Steelers defenders were in great shape too with Jaideep and Mohit picking up High 5s Coach Rakesh Kumar had asked his men to not show Nitin Tomar too much respect on the matWith Nitin Tomar neutralised by the motivated defenders Aslam Inamdar struggling and no Mohit Goyat available Pune looked blunt without any raiding prowessHaryana clinched another ALL OUT with 8 minutes remaining to open a 10-point lead Substitute Vishwas S brought some belief back into the Pune camp with clinical raiding but Haryana held firm Jaideep and Mohit kept pulling off outstanding tackles to ensure Punes raiders had no chance of rescuing their teamVishwas forays in the dying minutes however helped Pune lose with a margin of just 7 points which helped the team get 1 point in the points table PTI ATK BS BS

Bengaluru Jan 19 PTI Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra on Wednesday warned of strict legal action against police personnel involved in crime and related offences He said it cannot be tolerated that police who are responsible for maintaining law and order in the society along with protecting public life and property are seen indulging in crime-related incidents Noting that there are more than one lakh police personnel in the state Jnanendra in a statement said Due to wrong activities of a select few a negative impression is getting created about the whole department in the minds of the public Directions will be given to not only suspend such police staff but also to dismiss them he said The Home Ministers statement comes in the backdrop of the recent arrest of two policemen deputed for the security of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommais private residence here for allegedly trying to extort money from drug peddlers Pointing to the incident Jnanendra complemented the officials who identified it and took legal action against those involved and said that directions have been given to felicitate them with the appropriate award PTI KSU KSU HDA HDA

2 cops deputed for CMs security held for trying to extort money from drug peddlers

Bengaluru Jan 19 PTI Two policemen deputed for the security of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommais private residence here were arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from drug peddlers Head constable Shiva Kumar and constable Santosh Naukar attached to the Koramangala police station were allegedly demanding money from drug peddlers in return for not booking cases them They are said to have caught a peddler and his associate in Koramangala on January 13 and as they had to report to security duty at CMs house that day they brought them to R T Nagar where Bommais private residence is located official sources said They said on the evening of January 13 the police control room received an alert from a citizen about suspicious activity in an autorickshaw parked near the CMs residence When the Hoysala police patrolling vehicle rushed to the spot two men in police uniform were seen talking to two others in the three-wheeler While the two constables claimed that they were questioning the other two on receiving information that they were drug peddlers the latter who were accused of peddling alleged that the men in uniform were demanding money from them to let them go After inquiry the policemen were suspended and arrested along with the two men and ganja was recovered from them Meanwhile Congress General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala commented on the issue If CMs security will be drug peddling wholl catch or punish the Drug mafia If drugs trade is being run under CMs nose his residence wholl bell the cat BJP Govt is endangering the present future of youth Can CM Bommai escape responsibility he tweeted PTI KSU RS ROH ROH
