Mumbai Feb 19 PTI The Shiv Sena has urged the Centre to withdraw the recent amendment to the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act 2021 which will ensure that no FIRs are registered in serious offences against children except with special permission from a judicial magistrate Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has written to Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani urging her to rectify the amendment and restore cognisable status of such offences The amendment will have a devastating impact on children as it shields perpetrators who employ and exploit children for begging labour and smuggling drugs Chaturvedi said The Sena leader lamented that these grave offences will not attract registration of FIRs and automatic investigation because of the amendment On one hand the Centre talks of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and on the other hand it brings forward an amendment that ensures that no FIRs are registered for serious offences against children except with special permission from a judicial magistrate she said The Central government had made changes in the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 through an amendment in 2021 which makes serious offences against children non-cognisable Serious offences can attract three to seven years of imprisonment PTI MR ARU ARU
Mumbai Jan 31 PTI The motto of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme can be achieved only by providing a safe environment for girls the Bombay High Court said on Monday while referring to the plight of female students in a village in Maharashtra who have to use a boat to reach their schoolA division bench of Justices Prasanna Varale and Anil Kilor took suo motu on its own cognizance of a news item on how children of Khirvandi village in Satara district have to travel by a boat to reach their school dailyThe bench referring to the news report noted that girl students ferry their own boat from one end of the Koyna dam to the other and from there go through a patch of dense forest to reach their schoolWe are short of words to express the suffering and plight of students in general and girls in particular the bench said in its orderWe can further state that the laudable object of the motto Beti Bachao Beti Padhao can be achieved only by providing a safe passage and a friendly atmosphere and environment for the girl children by the state it added referring to the Centres scheme that focuses on ensuring survival protection and education of the girl childThe court further said while the girl students are facing adversities they are showing courage will and strong determination to pursue their academic careerThe bench said it expects the Maharashtra government to take all steps to provide necessary assistance to these children and directed the HC registry department to place the matter for further hearing before an appropriate bench PTI SP RSY RSY

New Delhi Oct 18 PTI Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal who is in Pahalgam on Monday directed the authorities to set up testing facilities at Srinagar and Delhi airports for Kashmiri shawls a move aimed at promoting exports of the product He also proposed setting up a carpet village that will act as a demonstration centre of the local craft to visiting tourists and promote the local carpet industry The minister is on a two-day visit in the Union territory Goyal also met a delegation of industrialists from the Valley who apprised the minister of local issues being faced by them He discussed issues including bottlenecks in the export of Kashmiri shawls the new industrial package and the need to extend the package to existing industrial units to ensure their growth The minister assured the delegation of all possible support from the central government for promotion of local industries the ministry said in a statement Taking action on bottlenecks being faced in export of shawls he directed the authorities to set up testing facilities at Srinagar and Delhi airports while simultaneously upgrading the local testing facilities with state of the art machines according to the statement Goyal was emphasising on promoting products that can add up to the export potential of the UT Further he directed the district administration to work out plans for homestay tourism in Pahalgam Goyal emphasised that the local industry players should play by their strengths and set up units where the Union Territory has a comparative advantage to ensure sustenance of the industries being set up He also inspected stalls put up by various departments including animal husbandry district industries ICDS social welfare horticulture sheep husbandry handloom and handicrafts PTI The minister also distributed baby kits among female infants under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme Under the Ladli Beti scheme grants were distributed among beneficiaries He distributed sanction letters among beneficiaries for purchase of milk vans PTI RR RSN HRS hrs
