Varanasi Apr 25 PTI The Banaras Hindu University has started a interest-free loan assistance scheme for its students who face challenges in pursuing education owing to their weak economic conditionUnder the scheme students whose family hold a below poverty line BPL card or whose parents have succumbed to COVID-19 or are no more and the child was dependent on their earnings will be given an annual assistance of Rs 12000 according to a statementThis has been done so that they can complete their education at the university in an uninterrupted mannerTo avail the scheme recommendation from two faculty members is necessaryVice-Chancellor Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain in the statement said that the university will extend all possible help to students so that they could complete their studies The financial assistance will be an interest-free loan he saidAs of now as many as 1000 students will be given the benefit of this scheme So far around 200 applications have come in this regard and 103 applications have been approved according to the statementAfter getting employment the student can pay the loans in installments in two years it saidThe responsibility of paying the loans will not be on the parents of the student nor on the faculty members who had recommended the name of the students for the loan the statement said PTI CORR NAV ANB ANB

Dehradun Mar 31 PTI Electricity became dearer in Uttarakhand with the state electricity regulatory commission revising the tariff rates for 2022-23 on Thursday The revised rates come into effect from April 1 the Commission said The Commission has restricted the tariff hike to around 268 per cent as against the proposal of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited of about 602 per cent and overall tariff hike proposed by all the utilities of about 1018 per cent it said in a press release While revising the tariffs for different category of consumers the Commission has attempted to reduce the cross-subsidies for all the categories There has been a marginal increase of 4 paisekWh in tariff for around 4 lakh BPL consumers The commission has raised tariff by 10 paiseunit for domestic consumers consuming up to 100 units per month which would impact around 1143 lakh consumers or 45 per cent of domestic consumers the commission said No increase in fixed charges has been effected for domestic users The Commission has reduced the Peak Hour surcharge from 50 per cent to 30 per cent The Commission has reduced the Continuous Supply Surcharge to 25 per cent from 5 per cent The Commission has increased the voltage rebate from 25 per cent to 35 per cent for consumers availing supply at 33 kV voltage level Considering the requests made by the stakeholders and load pattern the Time of Day Slots during winter months have been modified by 1 hour and normal hour will begin from 0800 Hrs instead of 0900 hrs the commission said PTI ALM MR MR

Ranchi Mar 27 PTI The Jharkhand governments flagship Grain ATM project that aims at modernising the public distribution system has failed to attract more than one bidder even after completion of the second deadline on March 23 an official said on SundayThe government is now contemplating extending the last date for submitting the expression of interest by a week or so he saidThe food and public distribution department had planned to set up Grain ATMs at 10 locations across the state to check leakages in the supply chainThe primary focus was to install these multi-commodity automated machines at high-volume fair price shops and state food corporation godowns in populated areas by June this year the official saidThe department also planned to set up Grain ATMs at more than 2600 fair price shops in the state he saidIt had accordingly floated an expression of interest EoI for the project in February and extended the deadline for submitting bids till March 23Till now only one bidder has shown interest in the project To finalise it we need at least two biddersWe are now planning to go for another extension of the last date by a week or so to invite more bidders Food public distribution and consumer affairs director Dilip Tirkey told PTIA Ranchi-based bidder has so far shown interest in the project he said The Grain ATMs will mainly be established at fair price shops and they will be linked to e-PoS point of sale machines There will be a biometric authentication system in the unit The benefit of the initiative is that PDS dealers cannot provide lesser amounts of foodgrains to beneficiaries Once a PDS dealer pushes the button of kg it will automatically come to the departments record and a beneficiary will get food items another official saidThe move is to check irregularities in the supply of ration as beneficiaries of the public distribution system often lodge complaints against PDS dealers for malpracticesThe department had suspended more than 100 PDS dealers on basis of such complaints in 2020 the official saidAround 228 crore beneficiaries who are registered under the priority household category of the food security scheme in Jharkhand get 5 kg of grains a month at Re 1 per kg while 9 lakh BPL households enrolled under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana programme are entitled to 35 kg of grains per month at Re 1 per kgHarayana is stated to be Indias first state to set up a Grain ATM - Annapurti- in Gurugram in July 2021 This machine can dispense up to 70 kg of grains within five to seven minutes PTI SAN NAM BDC BDC
