Guwahati Dec 28 PTI Drones will be deployed to map unsurveyed inhabited areas in Bodoland Territorial Region BTR as the exercise will enable authorities to modernise its land record system and provide documents to inhabitants for utilising the resource as a financial asset An official release said a tripartite MoU to extend SVAMITVA Survey of Villages And Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas Scheme to BTR was signed among Bodoland Territorial Council BTC the Assam government and the Survey of India on Tuesday The agreement was signed by Gyanendra Dev Tripathi Director of Land Records and Surveys Assam Shantanu Gotmare Principal Secretary BTC and Ch Venkateswara Rao Director Assam Nagaland GDC in the presence of several top officials The survey by drones will be followed by generation of GIS map to enable detailed spatial database of property with a view to providing property cards to owners for leveraging land as a financial asset the release said Sunil Kumar Secretary Ministry of Panchayati Raj emphasised the need for technology-driven mainstreaming of land administration in Sixth Schedule areas and hoped that it would pave the way for bringing all other autonomous councils within the ambit of the scheme He also underscored that local customary land laws shall be respected while implementing the project Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua said it would be a path-breaking step for clear ownership of land and urged all stakeholders to work in close collaboration The principal secretary of BTC Shantanu Gotmare said the unsurveyed areas would now be mapped and it would be an impetus to modernise the land record management system in BTR PTI SSG MM MM

Guwahati Dec 19 PTI Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said 26 private colleges in Bodoland Territorial Region BTR will be brought under the government control in the first phase of provincialisation Sarma held a meeting with a delegation of All Bodo Students Union ABSU and Bodo Sahitya Sabha BSS regarding development of the educational sector in the BTR as per the Bodo Accord As per the request of the delegation it was decided that 26 venture colleges would be taken up in BTR in the first phase for provincialisation a statement from the Chief Ministers Office CMO said The Higher Education Department will check the status of the colleges infrastructure qualification of existing faculty need for fresh recruitment and take appropriate action in this regard it added Decision was also taken in the meeting for creating adequate Bodo language teacher posts in schools in Bodo areas as per NEP 2020 Single cadre post creation will be done in all government and provincialised colleges the CMO statement said Sarma said that a campus of the Bodoland University will be set up at Udalguri along with science and law colleges in the BTR while a decision was taken for holding a special Teacher Eligibility Test TET for Bodo medium The chief minister further directed to form an advisory committee with the representatives of WPTBC Department Education Department ABSU and BSS to supervise proper implementation of the decisions taken during the meeting A similar meeting will be held within six months for reviewing the status the statement said In the meeting Sarma announced to offer Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia to Malobika Daimary who was injured in a firing by Forest Department personnel at Boko in Kamrup district recently while directing the GMCH authorities to provide best treatment to her PTI TR RG RG

Bhopal Nov 29 PTI A 10-year-old injured tigress died two days after being rescued from a buffer zone of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve BTR in Madhya Pradeshs Umaria district an official said on Monday The tigress identified as T-66 was spotted in Khitoli and Panpatha buffer zones of the reserve since the past one month A forest team was constantly monitoring the carnivore and it seemed to be unable to hunt its prey due to some serious injuries a senior BTR official said in a statement The feline was rescued from the Khitoli zone on November 26 and brought to Baherha enclosure where a team of doctors from Jabalpurs Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University operated upon it the official said At the time of rescue the tigress appeared starved Efforts were made to feed the big cat as per the advice of veterinary experts But the tigress was unable to eat and died on Sunday the official said Later an autopsy was conducted and the carcass were disposed of as per directives of the National Tiger Conservation Authority he said Madhya Pradesh is home to a number of tiger reserves including Kanha Bandhavgarh Pench Satpura and Panna The state had regained the top position in the 2018 census with a population of 526 tigers PTI COR ADU GK GK

Guwahati Sept 21 PTI Assam government on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the killing of two alleged United Liberation of Bodoland ULB militants by policemen a day after a 12-hour bandh to protest the death brought life in the four districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region BTR to a standstill An order issued by Assam government said Divisional Commissioner of Lower Assam Jayant Narlikar has been directed to inquire into the circumstances leading to the death of two suspected ULB militants in an encounter with the police at Ultapani in Kokrajhar district on September 18 Narlikar was tasked to submit the report within 15 days The killing of the two suspected militants evoked wide-spread protests in the BTR with a 12-hour bandh called by All Bodo Peoples ABP shutting down normal life in the region on Monday Several political and non-political organizations and leaders have strongly condemned the killings claiming the encounter was staged and the youths killed were innocent Bodoland Peoples Front BPF Chief Hagrama Mohilary on Tuesday appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to initiate a high level probe by the CBI into the encounter in the interest of peace and tranquility in the BTR He also appealed to the ULB leadership to refrain from violent activities to prevent loss of life and property I appeal to the UBL leadership to restrain from retaliatory activities or planting of bombs which might further escalate the situation in Bodoland region the former Bodoland Territorial Council BTC Chief said The police had claimed on Saturday that two suspected militants of a newly formed outfit United Liberation of Bodoland ULB had been killed and their camp busted while two pistols and grenades were recovered from the encounter site Assam has witnessed a series of encounters since the present BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed office on May 10 with many alleged militants and criminals being shot dead or injured while allegedly trying to flee from custody The opposition has alleged the state police has become trigger-happy The Chief Minister however has supported police action and said Assam police had full operational liberty to fight criminals within the ambit of law In all 26 accused have been killed so far and 42 others injured when police fired on them claiming that they had tried to escape from custody in the last four-and-half-months PTI DG JRC JRC
