Chandigarh Dec 28 PTI Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expanded his cabinet on Tuesday inducting an MLA each from the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP and its coalition partner Jannayak Janta Party JJPIn the second expansion carried out in two years BJPs Hisar MLA Kamal Gupta and JJP MLA Devender Singh Babli who represents Tohana in the assembly were inducted into the Khattar ministry as cabinet ministersThey were administered oath by Governor Bandaru Dattatreya at a ceremony held at the Haryana Raj Bhavan here Gupta took oath in Sanskrit while Babli took oath in HindiChief Minister Khattar Haryana assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa were among those present on the occasionWith the induction of the two MLAs the strength of the Haryana council of ministers has gone up to 14 including the chief minister which is the upper limitEarlier 10 MLAs were inducted into the cabinet in November 2019 days after the chief minister and his deputy were sworn in on October 27 in that yearAfter Tuesdays cabinet expansion the BJP has 10 ministers including the chief minister and the JJP has three ministers including the deputy chief minister while Ranjit Singh Chautala is the lone Independent MLA inducted as a ministerThe BJP fell short of a simple majority in the October 2019 Haryana assembly polls winning 40 of the 90 seats and subsequently it forged an alliance with the JJP which has 10 MLAsThe BJP formed the government in the state with the support of JJP lawmakers and Independent MLAs Talking to reporters Haryana BJP chief OP Dhankar while commenting on the induction of the two leaders said Kamal Gupta works dedicatedly on any task he takes up while Babli is energetic and works with passion and dedication on the task assigned to him When asked that Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij was conspicuous by his absence at the oath-taking ceremony Dhankar said He is our senior leader and we take decisions after consulting him When specifically asked if Vij was unhappy over any issue Dhankar said He is our senior leader and best performer Interacting with reporters after the swearing-in ceremony Dr Kamal Gupta a two-time MLA said his priority will be to ensure Hisar and the states development Babli is a first-time MLA from Tohana in Fatehabad which remained a hotbed of a farmers protest against three central farm laws earlier this year The JJP legislator also had faced a strong protest by farmers in his constituency in June during which his SUVs windscreen was damaged and his personal assistant injured Babli had in the 2019 assembly polls defeated BJPs the then state unit chief Subhash Barala by a heavy margin of votesSpelling out his priority after taking oath Babli said I will serve people of my state with full honesty Whatever responsibility is entrusted to me I will try to deliver my best and live up to the expectations of the people The newly inducted ministers said allocation of portfolios is the prerogative of the chief minister and whatever department they get they will try to give their best PTI SUN VSD ANB ANB

New Delhi Nov 26 PTI Ratandeep cannot walk talk eat or even defecate without help but he reached Singhu border on Friday in a wheelchair to participate in the celebrations to mark one year of the farmers protest against the central farm lawsThat he is happy could be gauged by his smile and the gestures he made to his mother Harpreet Kaur 45He was a healthy child till he was four Meningitis gave him permanent disabilities and changed the course of his life she saidWe could have left him with his grandparents but it would not have been the right thing to do He cannot convey his feelings in words but I know he is happy being part of the movement Kaur from Ludhiana saidAre you happy puttar his father Gurmeet Singh asked immediately Ratandeep 25 looked at his mother smiled and made a gesture that suggested he was excitedThe reason the family brought Ratandeep to the Singhu border was to inspire people to fight for their collective rights despite all oddsHis limbs do not work he cannot talk but he is still here He has contributed to the cause This will give him confidence and inspire others Kaur saidThis was the second time Ratandeep and his family were here after December 26 last yearWe could not come often because of the problem he faces outdoors It is tough when he has to urinate and defecate There are no toilet for specially-abled people here Kaur saidPunjabi and Haryanvi celebratory music filled in the air at the Singhu border protest site on Friday as farmers danced atop their tractors bedecked with lights and posters and took out symbolic marches to mark one year of the movement against the three farm laws the government is set to withdraw formallyFarmers flaunting colourful turbans sunshades long beards and twirling moustaches danced on the roofs of tractors distributed laddoos and hugged each other to mark the occasion that seemed like a festivalThousands of them flocked to the site over the last few days buoyed by the governments announcement to repeal the farms laws to mark the completion of one year of a dogged protest that saw a long dusty patch of the Delhi-Karnal road between the national capital and Sonepat turning into a makeshift town with bamboo huts and all basic amenities one could think ofChildren and elderly men and women carried flags of their farmer unions and raised slogans of victory Inquilab Zindabad and Majdoor Kisan Ekta Zindabad amid passionate non-stop beating of drumsThe assembly area near the centrestage saw a large gathering like the early days of the protestThe attendees included businessmen professionals lawyers teachers among others belonging to families of farmers PTI GVS SRY
